Tot Time~ Ice Melting

The boys got to do some ice melting experiments today at the museum.  They were each given a tray with three ice cubes and then three small dishes with solutions in them. The blue solution was table salt and water. The red solution was sea salt and water. The yellow solution was sugar and water. They used pipettes to add the solutions to the ice cubes. Pipettes were used at the last Tot Time, so Ethan and Jacob were excited to get to play with them again.

Both boys discovered that the solution with the table salt melted the ice the quickest. I think I heard Miss Abby say that the sea salt worked best for her. Not all of our sea salt was dissolved enough to fit into the pipette, so that may have made a difference. She gave the kids more ice cubes and let them play around with mixing colors too. Ethan and Jacob had a great morning exploring science.
