Hello Track, Goodbye Basketball

Yesterday was Carter's first track meet.  It was cold and rainy and miserable.  I was lucky enough to leave Ethan and Jacob home with Megan so that they didn't have to stand out in the freezing rain.  Carter and the rest of the track kids were absolutely miserable because they were soaking wet and and the temperature was only 53 degrees.  The meet started at 4:30, and Carter is only doing the long jump which was one of the first events.  Even so, we didn't leave until 5:45.  A lot of other kids had not even competed when we left, so they had been just standing around in the cold rain.

I found Carter waiting for the meet to start and snapped a picture.

He was soaked before it even started.

I also got some shots of him practicing the long jump.

And then, the event.  Each student jumped three times, and then they used their best of the three.

I think you can see just how cold and miserable they are in this shot.
It's kind of sad that the kids didn't enjoy their first middle school meet, but they have plenty more to look forward to.  Hopefully, it will be sunny and warm next time.

After the meet, we had to rush to Carter's last two basketball games at Wabash Valley.  He was much happier playing a sport indoors.  He made the first basket of the first game and the team had a great game.

They won their first first game, and lost their last.  All in all, it was a pretty good season.

And, Heidi and Brien came to the game which is always special.
